Bengals will honor Jovante Woods with moment of silence

Elbert Jovante Woods, the 16-year-old son of former Bengals great Elbert “Ickey” Woods, died Saturday night, three days after suffering an asthma attack at his home.

On Sunday night, the Bengals will honor Jovante Woods and his family with a moment of silence before the team’s preseason home opener against the Broncos.

“Jovante was a boy with excellent promise, a gifted athlete and a fine student,” Bengals owner Mike Brown said in a statement released by the team. “His loss is a tragedy that saddens all of us associated with the Bengals. We extend our deepest condolences to Ickey and his family.”

Jovante Woods was expected to play starting cornerback at Princeton High School. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jovante’s family, friends, teammates, coaches, and classmates.
