Injuries piled up in the Eagles secondary in last weekend’s loss to the Vikings, part of the reason why they wound up giving up 48 points to an offense playing without its top two running backs.
With Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery and Martellus Bennett coming to town on Sunday night, the prospect of being shorthanded again is a dangerous one for the Eagles. Safeties Colt Anderson and Kurt Coleman are unlikely to play as they have yet to practice this week, but the news is better for cornerback Brandon Boykin.
Boykin has been cleared to play on Sunday, assuring the Eagles that they’ll have their slot corner back in the lineup. Boykin has been the most consistent corner for the Eagles this season, so it’s a good thing to have him back with Marshall, who Boykin expects he’ll match up with often, and Jeffery on the other side of the ball.
“You’re talking about guys that are 6-3, 6-4 and both playing at a very, very high level,” Boykin said, via the Philadelphia Daily News. “Normally, you might have two big guys, but one of them’s better than the other. I don’t really think that’s the case. They can throw to either one of ‘em, and they’re capable of making plays.”
Even with Boykin, the Eagles are vulnerable to good passing teams while the Bears have major issues stopping the run. That combination could lead to a Sunday night shootout between two teams pushing for playoff spots.
