Bears offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer has admitted that he was an unnamed source who said negative things about quarterback Jay Cutler in an NFL Network report. Kromer apologized to Cutler and the rest of the team in an offensive meeting this week -- an apology that was also leaked to the press by unnamed Bears.
Now Bears receiver Brandon Marshall is wondering which of his teammates spilled the beans about what Kromer thought would be a private apology behind closed doors.
Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune broke the news of Kromer’s apology on Thursday night, and Marshall responded to Biggs’s tweet about it by tweeting, “Most interesting part of this story is the NEW source.”

It is an interesting part of this story: Biggs attributed his report to four sources, none of whom gave their names. When four different people in the Bears’ offensive meeting are telling Biggs about Kromer making what was described as “an emotional and tearful apology,” it sure sounds like there are at least four people in the Bears’ offensive meeting who don’t think highly of the offensive coordinator and want a story that will make him look bad to get published.
It’s unclear whether Marshall, who is on injured reserve, was at the meeting at which Kromer apologized, but Marshall seems to be supportive of Kromer. When another Chicago Tribune writer, David Haugh, tweeted that Kromer must go, Marshall tweeted a reply of, “Slow down.”
Maybe the next apology will be from one of those other unnamed sources, apologizing for going public with the kind of thing that coaches and players alike usually prefer to keep in-house.
