Despite not throwing any passes in Wednesday’s practice, Saints quarterback Drew Brees told reporters he has “every intention” of playing Sunday against the Panthers.

Brees is battling a shoulder injury, specifically a bruised rotator cuff. There have been varying reports about the extent of the injury and the pain with which Brees has been dealing, but Brees said he’s “pretty confident” he’ll be able to play by Sunday.

The 0-2 Saints are looking for any bit of good news, and Brees said he’ll put in extra work this week if that’s what it takes to be able to play.

Veteran Luke McCown took the practice reps with the No. 1 offense Wednesday and would be the starter if Brees can’t play.

Earlier Wednesday, Saints coach Sean Payton said Brees was “day to day” -- and pledged to not say anything more than that.

With four days until the actual game and varying reports still swirling, stay tuned. The Saints and Brees may not know much more until the week of practice is over Friday.
