Brock Osweiler sharp for Broncos as Peyton Manning sits
Peyton Manning did not play in Friday night’s preseason opener for the Denver Broncos. Instead, the Broncos gave the first half to backup Brock Osweiler, who had a solid performance against the Seattle Seahawks.
Osweiler was 15-of-20 for 151 yards and a touchdown pass in playing the entirety of the first half. Osweiler’s 17-yard touchdown pass to Virgil Green was perfectly placed behind Seattle safety DeShawn Shead, who started in place of the absent Kam Chancellor.
Denver scored points on all five possessions with Osweiler at quarterback with four field goals - two from Connor Barth and two from Brandon McManus - and the Green touchdown.
With Osweiler in a contract year, the Broncos need to learn what they have in their backup quarterback to see if he can be the long-term replacement for Manning. Denver will like what they saw Friday night.
