The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced they have placed cornerback Danny Gorrer on injured reserve Tuesday and re-signed defensive tackle Gary Gibson after releasing him in their cuts to 53 players over the weekend.

Gorrer was tagged with the designated to return label and will be ineligible to play for the first eight weeks of the season. He can return to practice after Week 6 of the season. With Gorrer given the return designation, any remaining Buccaneers player placed on injured reserve will be out for the remainder of the season.

Gorrer has been dealing with a groin injury that was aggravated in the Buccaneers’ preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens. Gorrer had managed an interception of Joe Flacco and recorded two passes defensed before being injured. The injury required surgery that will keep Gorrer sidelined for the first half of the season.

Gibson appeared in all 16 games for Tampa Bay last season and started one game. He recorded 18 tackles on the year.
