Conventional wisdom earlier this offseason said the Bucs would cut cornerback Aqib Talib.
Conventional wisdom is usually stupid. Talent trumps all.
Bucs G.M. Mark Dominik said Tuesday he expects Talib to be on the team during training camp and into the season. It remains unclear if the NFL will further punish Talib for his arrest this offseason, but his legal troubles may not play until 2012.
If Talib was a borderline NFL talent, he would have been cut two years ago. If he was a solid rotational player, he would have been cut Tuesday.
Talib is a uniquely talented NFL starter with potential to be among the game’s best. Those guys get all the chances they need.
