A disappointing third season for Buccaneers defensive end Da’Quan Bowers has ended.
The Bucs announced they placed Bowers on injured reserve with a knee injury. He’ll be replaced on the 53-man roster with second-year defensive end Scott Solomon.
Bowers had just 1.0 sack this season, giving him 5.5 in three seasons. That’s far off expectations for the former second-round pick, whose draft stock slid because of concerns about his knees.
The Buccaneers have tried many tactics to motivate him, but it appears that after trying to slot him as a pass-rush specialist, he simply isn’t able to do it at this level.
