Budda Baker hasn’t asked to be traded, and hasn’t asked not to be traded

Cardinals safety Budda Baker says he’s not seeking a trade. Nor has he expressly asked to stay in Arizona.

Baker, who has often been mentioned as a potential trade target multiple times over the years, told Josh Weinfuss of ESPN on Wednesday that he has not requested a trade, nor has he requested not to be traded. Baker said he hasn’t talked to General Manager Monti Ossenfort “about anything.”

“My approach is I’m here,” Baker said. “I’m here. I want to win. I want to be here. And I’m just controlling what I can control, just taking it one week at a time, and hopefully when the deadline ends, I’ll still be here. If not, I mean, it’s a business. I understand at the end of the day and that’s it.”

Baker knows there will be people talking about him as the November 10 trade deadline approaches.

“It’s a deadline for a reason,” Baker said. “Teams are trying to get players, and our team might be trying to get players and getting other players. So, at the end of the day, it’s a business.”

Baker is 30 years old and is under contract through 2027 at a salary of about $16 million a season. We’ll find out in the next 12 days whether two teams think a Baker trade is good business.
