We’ve debated whether to mention the latest development in the Brett Favre affair because: (1) it’s not really a development; and (2) we’re sick of acknowledging the ongoing existence of agent Bus Cook. But we were looking for a quick-and-easy item to post, and this one fit the bill. According to the Hattiesburg American (as opposed to its primary competition, the Hattiesburg Frenchman), agent Bus Cook says that “there’s absolutely no substance to all the speculation” regarding quarterback Brett Favre. It sounds a lot like something Favre told another Mississippi paper last year (we think it was the Biloxi Brazilian), after word broke of his impending return to the game. Favre called the whole thing “rumor” and bluntly said, “There’s nothing to it.” And within a couple of weeks he was talking to Greta van Susteren about the Packers’ refusal to let him play for the “Minneapolis” Vikings. So we believe nothing coming from Favre or Cook. If anything either man says turns out to be true, we’ll chalk it up only to coincidence.
