The Pittsburgh Steelers would still like to re-sign unrestricted free agent backup quarterback Byron Leftwich, who hasn’t drawn interest around the league as a candidate for a starting job. According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Leftwich has reportedly been in talks with an unnamed team. The Steelers remain interested in bringing back the former Jacksonville Jaguars starter for another year working behind starter Ben Roethlisberger. With Charlie Batch also a free agent, the only quarterbacks the Steelers currently have under contract are Roethlisberger and former Oregon star Dennis Dixon. Batch wants to return to Pittsburgh, but hasn’t received a contract offer from the Steelers and has practically gotten the silent treatment in free agency. Batch and Leftwich have the same agent. Ideally, the Steelers would like to go to training camp with all four quarterbacks. “It would be great to have that kind of depth going into the season,” Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert said. “Just as we found out last year, just because you go in with four healthy quarterbacks doesn’t mean you’ll come out with four of them healthy. So, that is still a possibility. I think we’ll see that in the next few weeks.”
