Cardinals’ Daryl Washington pleads guilty to assaulting ex-girlfriend
Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington has pleaded guilty to assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
Washington pleaded guilty to aggravated assault on Monday in Maricopa County Superior Court in Phoenix, the Associated Press reports.
The disturbing incident took place last May, when the ex-girlfriend (who is also the mother of Washington’s daughter) told police that he grabbed her by the throat and shoved her to the ground, breaking her collarbone in the process.
Washington was suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. He will now presumably be suspended for the start of the 2014 season for violating the NFL’s personal-conduct policy.
But that may not be the biggest concern for Washington: He faces a sentence of up to two years in prison on the aggravated assault conviction.
