Dan Williams is set to become a free agent on Tuesday, which could leave the Cardinals in search of a new starter at nose tackle next season.
They have made sure that a backup at the position will remain with the team, however. The Cardinals announced Monday that they have re-signed Alameda Ta’amu to a one-year deal.
Ta’amu, who was set to become a restricted free agent, tore his ACL near the end of a good 2013 season and never regained his place in the pecking order. Ta’amu played in seven games and had little impact in their proceedings.
With Darnell Dockett already gone and Williams possibly following, Ta’amu assures them of some depth and it’s not unreasonable to think the 24-year-old can rebound back to being the player he was two years ago.
Veteran defensive tackle Tommy Kelly is also set to become a free agent for the Cardinals on Tuesday.
