With Pats quarterback Tom Brady once again not available for the Pro Bowl, the next guy on the list is getting the call.
And it’s his former backup in Foxboro, Matt Cassel.
The Chiefs announced today that Cassel has been added to the team. The Patriots’ coaching staff will do the honors for the AFC, because they were the team with the best record to lose on division-round weekend. (Hooray?)
Cassel has never before appeared in a Pro Bowl. After struggling during his first season in Kansas City, Cassel had a huge year in 2010, thanks in large part to former Chiefs offensive coordinator Charlie Weis.
Hopefully, Kermit will be able to reach the same level of success.
The Pro Bowl will be played on January 30, one week before Super Bowl XLV. Interest in the game spiked last year, given that it was moved from its long-standing position of anticlimax. Also, the game was played in Miami, not Hawaii.
This year, the game goes back to Hawaii, and it will be televised by FOX.
