Chargers coach Norv Turner says his defensive end Jacques Cesaire has played well the last two years. The team still wants to replace Cesaire the starting lineup.
“Unless something goes differently than the Chargers foresee, Cesaire will no longer be their right defensive end, the spot he started at the past two seasons,” Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Cesaire has been with the team since 2003 and still looks like a solid option for snaps, but he’s currently a free agent. It’s never a good idea to assume anything in the NFL Draft, but it’s hard to imagine the Chargers not taking a defensive front seven player with the No. 18 overall pick.
3-4 defensive end options like J.J. Watt or Cameron Jordan look like natural fits if they are still around when A.J. Smith makes the first pick in a very important draft for him.
