The Dolphins are giving the Chiefs all they can handle on Sunday afternoon.
But Kansas City still leads 14-7 at halftime.
Miami has dominated time of possession and been aggressive on offense, going for it on fourth down multiple times. But the Chiefs have been able to prevent the Dolphins from putting up many points with stops and takeaways.
The Chiefs hit the easy button to put points on the board first with their opening possession, as Kenneth Walker took in a 10-yard touchdown.
Patrick Mahomes had started the game with a 48-yard completion to Travis Kelce to set up the score.
But the Dolphins came right back with a 17-play, 91-yard drive, ending with Ollie Gordon’s 3-yard touchdown to tie the game at 7-7.
De’Von Achane went down with a knee injury during that possession and has not returned.
The teams traded fourth-down stops before Kansas City got a turnover from L’Jarius Sneed, who punched the ball out from quarterback Malik Willis on a run in Kansas City territory. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid had to challenge the play, as Willis was initially ruled down.
The Chiefs then gave the ball back to the Dolphins with a Mahomes interception. The ball went off of Rashee Rice’s hands, was tipped by another defender, and then linebacker Jacob Rodriguez dove to intercept the pass — returning it to the Miami 47.
But the Dolphins again couldn’t take advantage of their opportunity, eventually punting it away.
Mahomes started the game 11-of-11 passing before his tipped interception. He’s 12-of-13 for 134 yards with a TD and a pick at the break.
Willis is 11-of-17 for 112 yards.
The Dolphins will receive the second-half kickoff.
