Eagles safety Earl Wolff and coach Chip Kelly do not agree about the status of Wolff’s recovery from knee surgery.
At Tuesday’s Organized Team Activities, Kelly said Wolff is cleared to do everything, and the only thing holding him back would be pain tolerance. But Wolff said he has not been fully cleared.
“He’s been cleared from Dr. [James] Andrews a couple weeks ago,” Kelly said, via Philly.com. “But it’s what he can tolerate. . . . Earl has done nothing except stretch, so there is no progress right now.”
Wolff, however, says Dr. Andrews didn’t give him clearance to go through a full practice.
“He didn’t clear me to come out here and be 100 percent,” Wolff said. “He cleared me to kind of push it. So it’s not like, ‘OK, Earl, now you’re cleared to go out there and run full speed.’ Because, when he cleared me, I was still kind of in the middle of my rehab.”
It’s been seven months since Wolff last played, and it sounds like he still doesn’t feel fully comfortable to get back on the field. It also sounds like if Wolff isn’t comfortable soon, he won’t make Kelly’s team.
