Eagles coach Chip Kelly is the kind of guy who can talk his way out of pretty much any problem. But not every problem.
According to the Associated Press, Kelly will lose $99,000 for failing to give proper notice when terminating his lease on a penthouse in the Old City section of Philadelphia.
Kelly’s lawyer says the notice requirements in the lease didn’t match the verbal promises made. But verbal promises rarely can trump the terms of a written document -- especially when the terms of the written document conflict with the supposed verbal promises.
It’s unknown whether the argument would have held water because, per the AP, Kelly’s lawyer failed to show up for the trial, which triggered the forfeiture of Kelly’s $20,000 security deposit. Coupled with the $79,000 in damages Kelly must pay, his total loss is $99,000.
