Chip Kelly releases statement, thanks fans and players
Chip Kelly released a statement through his representation at Athletes First Wednesday, about 24 hours after Kelly was fired by the Eagles.
The statement followed standard procedure; Kelly thanked ownership, discussed his relationship with his players and wished all involved well.
“I’m grateful to Jeffrey Lurie for allowing me to coach his Philadelphia Eagles for the past three seasons,” the statement said. “I deeply regret that we did not bring this great city and its fans the championship they deserve. I was blessed to work with a gifted and hard-working coaching staff every day, and they will succeed wherever they go. Finally, my players mean the world to me. I will miss them very much and I will be rooting for them to achieve their dreams. Life is all about responding to challenges and seizing opportunities.”
Tuesday night, Kelly told Jay Glazer of FOX Sports he wanted another chance to coach in the NFL -- and doesn’t want the personnel control he had with the Eagles if a second chance comes.
