Eagles coach Chip Kelly blamed turnovers first and foremost for Thursday night’s 26-16 loss to the Chiefs.
“You can’t turn the ball over like that in this league and expect to win,” Kelly said at his post-game press conference.
Kelly said his offense, which gained 431 total yards and 21 first downs, has shown that it can be effective. It just needs to cut down on the mistakes, which on Thursday night included two interceptions and three lost fumbles.
“We can move the ball up and down the field. I think we’ve proven that,” Kelly said. “But if we’re going to put the ball on the ground, as we did a couple times in the first half, and throw interceptions, that’s not going to win football for us. We can’t lose the turnover battle. You lose the turnover battle and you’re going to lose the football game.”
The Eagles have now lost two games in the last five days. Kelly said his staff will be back to work early Friday morning, and turnovers are a problem they need to fix.
