Christian Gonzalez did not practice on Tuesday

The Patriots joined the Colts for practice on Tuesday, but they were missing one of their top players.

Cornerback Christian Gonzalez did not take part in the session. There has been no word from the team about the reason why he was absent.

Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports that Gonzalez had a hard landing during a drill on Monday, which is one possible reason for sitting out. Another would be his ongoing contract talks with the Patriots.

Gonzalez did not hold in at any point during camp, but the increased intensity of a joint practice could have led to a different decision on Tuesday. Patriots owner Robert Kraft said last month that the Patriots have offered to make Gonzalez the highest-paid cornerback in the league, but there have been no updates on where things stand in their negotiations for the last couple of weeks. The Patriots did come to agreement with tight end Hunter Henry on a two-year extension on Monday.
