The Patriots will have a joint practice with the Eagles on Wednesday, but they won’t have their top cornerback on the field.
Head coach Mike Vrabel said that Christian Gonzalez will remain out of practice for the defending AFC champions. Gonzalez has been out of practice for over a week.
Vrabel has said several times that Gonzalez’s absence is related to injury rather than his ongoing contract impasse, but there’s been little word about the nature of the ailment that’s put him on the sideline.
There was some thought that the extension Devon Witherspoon reached with the Seahawks last week would pave the way for Gonzalez to come to an agreement of his own. That hasn’t happened at this point and it remains uncertain when he might be back on the field in New England.
