Colts down two receivers and Jerry Hughes

Kerry Collins is going to have to make his Colts debut with two fewer targets than he likely hoped for this Sunday.

Blair White and Anthony Gonzalez are both inactive for the season opener against the Texans. Gonzalez is dealing with a hamstring injury and White has a back problem. The good news for Collins and the Colts is that Austin Collie, listed as questionable with a foot injury, is able to go. That means the Colts have three receivers in uniform along with tight end Dallas Clark as targets in the first game without Peyton Manning since Bill Clinton’s second term.

The Colts also decided to make defensive end Jerry Hughes inactive. There’s no injury reason for Hughes sitting this one out, he simply hasn’t developed as hoped since the Colts made him their first-round pick in 2010. Drafted to aid the pass rush, he contributed six tackles and no sacks as a rookie and now he can’t even make the gameday roster. That’s not exactly a good sign for Hughes’ future in Indianapolis.
