There won’t be anyone wearing No. 5 for the Commanders on Friday night.
The Commanders announced that quarterback Jayden Daniels will not play against the Dolphins in the team’s preseason opener. Daniels has been at odds with LSU this week about the school’s decision to issue No. 5 to cornerback DJ Pickett for the 2026 season.
Marcus Mariota, Sam Hartman, and Athan Kaliakmanis will be the available quarterbacks for Washington.
Daniels will have plenty of company on the sideline. The Commanders announced that 25 other players will also be sitting out on Friday. That list includes most of the team’s projected starters, but does not include first-round linebacker Sonny Styles.
