Cortland Finnegan played his first five NFL seasons for Jeff Fisher in Tennessee, and now he’s pumped about playing for Fisher again in St. Louis.

Finnegan told Andrew Siciliano on NFL Network that he considers Fisher to be “a wonderful coach,” and the opportunity to join Fisher with the Rams was the single most important reason he signed with the team.

“I knew what he stood for, the defense itself, just having familiarity with that,” Finnegan said. “I loved every part about it. Coach has always believed in the players, he’s a real players’ coach and he’s someone you want to follow.”

Finnegan cited both his personal relationship with Fisher and his belief that Fisher will run a defense that takes advantage of Finnegan’s skills.

“Absolutely, he had a tremendous part to do with it,” Finnegan said. “The defensive scheme had a lot to do with it, playing to my strengths.

And although the Rams won only two games last season, Finnegan said he’s also excited to be in St. Louis because he thinks the Rams are going to be a good football team.

“We’re not rebuilding by any stretch,” Finnegan said. “We’re going to start to put it together, push each other and win football games.”
