A third-party contractor yelled “embarrassing” to Dak Prescott as he walked back to the Cowboys’ locker room after a 24-16 loss to the Bucs in Week 5. The Cowboys’ 33-30 overtime loss to the Cardinals on Sunday was arguably worse.
Before Sunday, the Cowboys were 202-0-1 when leading by 14 or more points in the fourth quarter at home in their history, including the postseason, according to ESPN.
On Sunday, the Cowboys led 24-10 with 14:20 remaining in regulation.
It matched the largest blown fourth-quarter lead in team history. In 2011 and 2022, the Cowboys blew fourth-quarter leads at the Jets and at the Packers, respectively. They are now 342-3-1 in franchise history when leading by at least 14 points in the fourth quarter.
Owner Jerry Jones called in “an indictment of the whole show.”
“We had numerable chances to win this game and didn’t do it,” Jones said. “And I know everybody . . . is disappointed. We came out the second half and were a shadow of ourselves. So there’s nothing to point to other than we just weren’t a good team in the second half.”
The Cowboys became the first team in the NFL this season to lose when leading by at least 14 points in the fourth. Teams were 44-0-1 in that situation entering Sunday.
