Cowboys still aren’t tipping hand on dividing running game

The Cowboys have a depth chart with Joseph Randle’s name on the first line.

But after an offseason spent not replacing the league’s leading rusher in DeMarco Murray, even the players involved at the position aren’t sure how the load is going to be distributed.

With Darren McFadden and Christine Michael looking for fresh starts, the Cowboys have a load of options, and executive vice president Stephen Jones said he thinks the run game can equal last year’s.

I think all the pieces are there,” Jones said, via Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “There’s a lot of different ways to be successful in the running game.

“Obviously, last year, we did it with one back. This year, I see a lot of people contributing to our success.”

The Cowboys aren’t dropping any hints about distribution of carries, though Randle did see the bulk of the action in the preseason. McFadden’s working on staying healthy, and said it didn’t bother him when Michael came aboard in trade.

“It’s a long season,” said McFadden, who has played 16 games once in his career. “Any time you can add a back like Christine Michael, it’s a plus to the team.”

Of course, the Cowboys had that one big minus this offseason, and until they can prove this collective can replace Murray, it’s still going to be one of the more debated decisions of the offseason.
