The Dallas Cowboys executed a trade up into the No. 6 overall spot Thursday night, sending the 14th pick and a second-round selection to the St. Louis Rams.
With the sixth pick, Dallas selected LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne.
Claiborne gives the Cowboys a third starting-caliber corner, joining incumbent Mike Jenkins and high-priced free agent addition Brandon Carr. The 2011 Thorpe Award winner as the nation’s top defensive back, Claiborne racked up 11 career interceptions at LSU across 26 starts. He also averaged 26.3 yards per career kickoff return.
A converted wide receiver, Claiborne is 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds. He ran a 4.44 forty time at February’s NFL Combine.
