Dan Campbell: Bijan Robinson’s extension certainly won’t hurt Jahmyr Gibbs talks

Bijan Robinson’s contract extension with the Falcons is done and that means a lot of attention will now shift to Detroit.

Jahmyr Gibbs has joined Robinson as a training camp observer over the last week as both running backs looked for new deals with the teams that drafted them in the first round in 2023. Now that Robinson has taken the plunge on a three-year, $66.75 pact, many will wait to see what impact it has on the Lions’ talks with Gibbs.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell was asked about that during a Tuesday morning press conference.

“It’s certainly not gonna hurt,” Campbell said. “It’s not gonna hurt, but we’ll see. I’m anxious to get Gibbs back out there. Every day that goes by, that’s another day that you feel like you miss with him and getting him out there with the guys. It’ll get done when it gets done.”

Gibbs was evasive on Monday about where things stand with his contract talks and whether he would start practicing at some point without a deal. Robinson’s deal sets a new bar for backs and that should help make the latter question a moot point before too much more time passes.
