Despite Richard Sherman’s best efforts to assert he’s the best cornerback in the NFL, Darrelle Revis believes he still holds that title.
Revis said in an interview with Sherman’s Seattle Seahawks teammate Michael Robinson that, when healthy, he still believes he’s the best the league has to offer.
“I believe, a healthy Darrelle Revis, I think I’ll still be at the top of that food chain,” Revis said.
Sherman and Revis exchanged barbs on Twitter as Sherman has said he believes he’s a better cornerback than Revis. Revis fired back saying Sherman “run his mouth so much like a girl” and to “sit down, young pup, and wait your turn.”
Revis said ultimately he believes his body of work and the respect he’s received from receivers he’s played against speaks to why he should still be considered the league’s best cornerback. In fact, Revis doesn’t think Sherman was even the best corner in the league this season.
“If you want to say who was the best this year, he would be in the talks of this year being the best, but my pick would be Charles Tillman,” Revis said. “It’s nothing that (Richard) did. He had eight picks. He had an unbelievable year but I would pick Charles Tillman because of the impact that he made on the game. The dude was up for the MVP at one point earlier in the season.”
Sherman recorded eight interceptions and three forced fumbles this season for the Seahawks while Revis missed most of the season due to a torn ACL. Revis said he does respect Sherman’s game but that he needs to do it over a longer period of time in order to truly enter the conversation of the league’s best.
“Is he on his way? Yes, definitely. He’s on his way and much success to him,” Revis said. I like his game. He’s a tall, athletic corner. He can press you. He can run. He can do a lot of things. ...It’s great. It’s only going to make him compete more and it’s going to make me compete more. It’s always good.”
