Former Washington Redskins defensive end/linebacker Darryl Tapp says he’s heading to the Motor City.

Tapps said via his Twitter account that he will not be back with the Redskins and is joining the Detroit Lions for next season.

“It was a honor and pleasure to play for my favorite team growing up...now my journey continues in the “D”...#Lionblood,” Tapp wrote.

Tapp has experience playing both as a defensive end in a 4-3 defense and as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense. With Willie Young heading to Chicago, Tapp could serve as a replacement at defensive end for the Lions at least on a rotational basis.

Tapp appeared in 11 games for Washington last season and recorded 10 tackles and a sack in reserve duty. Tapp has posted 25 sacks in eight seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, Philadelphia Eagles and Redskins.
