DeAngelo Williams, Vontaze Burfict trade Twitter barbs
Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams and Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict traded Twitter barbs Wednesday, and Williams told Burfict he’s held back by his “inability to control [himself].”
In a previous tweet, Williams asked Burfict what he’s doing when he’s not costing his team games.
When the emojis come out, it’s serious.
It got a little personal, and Burfict wondered why he was “talking s--t to a backup.” That’s when Williams brought up the January Bengals-Steelers playoff game and wild ending that led to Burfict getting suspended for three games to start the 2016 season.
Williams was injured and didn’t play in the playoff game, but he said Wednesday that Burfict’s hit on Antonio Brown that knocked Brown out of the following week’s game cost the Steelers a shot at winning the Super Bowl.
Both the Bengals and the NFL have asked Burfict to play nice(r) when he’s allowed to return to action. A little Twitter fight never hurt anybody, but there’s no doubt everything Burfict does, says and tweets will continue to be closely scrutinized.
