Denzel Ward says Ronnie Stanley’s hit on him was “a little cheap shot”

Ravens offensive tacke Ronnie Stanley could hear from the NFL office this week. He already is hearing it from the Browns.

Browns cornerback Denzel Ward tackled Ravens receiver Zay Flowers on a 14-yard catch over the middle after which Stanley hit Ward helmet-to-helmet on a blindside block. Officials did not penalize Stanley, but Browns coach Kevin Stefanski sent the play to the NFL.

It knocked Ward out of the game with a neck injury, but Ward, who has had four known concussions as a Brown, passed a concussion test.

“Yeah, I kind of felt it was a little cheap shot,” Ward said Thursday, via Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com. “He got me. I felt it was an unnecessary hit and probably could have been a penalty on the play, but I mean it’s football. Stuff happens. It’s all good. I don’t wish no bad on nobody. But, yeah, I got got, so it’s all good.”

An MRI revealed a mild neck strain, and Ward had a limited practice Wednesday.

I don’t wish no bad on nobody, man,” Ward said. “I’m just glad we got the win. That’s the main focus. And just hate I couldn’t be out there, though, for my guys that game, but they did a great job. Find a way to get the win and [we] did that.”
