So Cam Newton is the starter in Carolina. No surprise there.

Derek Anderson may be the backup over Jimmy Clausen, which is an eye-opener. Anderson played second behind Cam Newton in the preseason finale and played well.

Clausen’s first three plays as the No. 3 quarterback: Interception, sack, lost fumble by the center.

It wasn’t a great night for Carolina. The defense looked rough again and versatile reserve offensive lineman Garry Williams appeared to break his leg.
