Derrick Mason and Joe Flacco had to be separated after “heated exchange”

D. Mason

Apparently, Derrick Mason is known for speaking his mind on the sidelines, whether it is to his coaches or his quarterback.

That’s why Mike Preston of the Baltimore Sun says that Mason’s two exchanges on the sideline of Sunday’s win over the Panthers isn’t a huge deal. Mason reportedly had a “very heated exchange” with quarterback Joe Flacco in the second half.

Mason apparently wasn’t happy that Flacco was late in getting a pass to him. The two players had to be separated by other players and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron played mediator.

Earlier in the game, Cameron was the subject of Mason’s ire. Mason was reportedly irritated about the Ravens’ pace not being fast enough and he “exchanged a few words” with Cameron.

We don’t think this is a huge deal, partly because the Ravens are reportedly used to it.

“After having dealt with Mason through the years, the team considers it just another day at the office,” Preston writes.

Mason has 447 yards this year, which is down from his pace of the last few years. Still, it’s more than we’d expect considering all the additions to the offense. Keeping everyone happy on Baltimore’s offense has proven to be a new challenge for Flacco and Cameron this year.
