DeSean Jackson “very confident” he’ll get a new contract

Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson said after Sunday’s loss to the Packers that he believes the Eagles will reward him for his big season with a big new contract.

“I think they will in the offseason,” Jackson said. “So we’ll see how that goes. I’m very confident that the right things will happen here. I’m happy here. I love playing in Philadelphia. Hopefully we can continue to make this last.”

Eagles president Joe Banner, however, said he thinks it’s better to wait until the owners and the players have worked out a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. So Jackson, who has one year left on his four-year rookie contract, may need to be patient.

Asked if he thinks a new deal is coming, Jackson said, “Hopefully. But you can’t force it.”

If Jackson doesn’t have a new contract by the start of training camp, we’ll see if he tries to force it.
