The Dolphins lost star running back De’Von Achane on the first drive Sunday . . . and maybe for the season.
Chiefs safety Alohi Gilman tackled Achane by the facemask and twisted him awkwardly to the ground. Gilman was not penalized on a play that might have ended Achane’s season.
The Dolphins ruled out Achane with a knee injury, and coach Jeff Hafley said postgame that it appears Achane has a serious injury.
“Still gathering information and hopefully I’ll have more information for you,” Hafley said. “To be very honest with you, it does not sound very optimistic at this moment. But I can’t give you any other details until I have them.”
Achane will undergo an MRI on Monday to confirm the initial diagnosis, whatever that is.
He had three carries for 17 yards on the day.
