Jaguars cornerback Dwayne Gratz is sorry, but he insisted to teammates that he’s not that dumb.
According to Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union, Gratz apologized to his teammates today for his bye week arrest, but denied that he tried to pay for items in a store with gum.
“He said the gum thing wasn’t true,” Jaguars receiver Cecil Shorts said.
Gratz didn’t get into specifics about the citation for disorderly intoxication and trespassing, but said it was important for him to accept responsibility.
“I knew it was wrong, but we are human and we make mistakes,” Gratz said. “I have to become a better man from this and move on.”
“I made a mistake. That’s all that really matters and I’m going to learn from it. . . . That’s not me. That’s now who I am and now who I’m trying to be.”
Gratz has met with team officials, including coach Gus Bradley, and will likely be fined. He is expected to play this weekend.
After all, getting chewed out for this one ought to be enough.
