Dwayne Haskins wrongful death lawsuit is settled and dismissed

Dwayne Haskins, a first-round pick in the 2019 draft, died in April 2022 after being struck by a dump truck. The incident sparked a wrongful-death lawsuit.

The case has now been dismissed.

Here’s a look at the civil complaint that was filed in August 2023, against various defendants.

The dismissal happened on Wednesday, according to attorney Rick Ellsley, who represented the Haskins estate.

“All of the settlements that were obtained have now been paid and so the wrongful death case has now been closed,” Ellsley said.

The terms of the settlements were not disclosed.

In wrongful-death actions, obtaining compensation for the estate is just part of the process. At some point, a court will have to decide how the net compensation will be distributed to Haskins’s survivors.

Haskins, a star at Ohio State, was drafted by Washington. He spent two years in D.C. and one with the Steelers.
