It took Andrew Gardner five stops before he found a home with the Eagles, and now the Eagles have rewarded Gardner for his persistence and good play with a three-year contract extension.
Gardner, who’s played both guard and tackle, won a training camp competition to lock down the starting right guard spot heading into next Monday’s season opener. He’d never started a game before last season after spending time with the Dolphins, Ravens, Vikings, Bengals and Texans.
The Eagles still list Gardner as a tackle on their official website roster. He played in all 16 games last year, starting six at right guard and two at right tackle.
Gardner, 29, played in seven games over three seasons with the Texans before signing with the Eagles before last season. Allen Barbre will start left guard, the spot vacated when Chip Kelly cut Evan Mathis earlier this summer.
