Eagles’ Westbrook: “My Job Is To Keep Those Guys On The Bench”

During an interview with Ike Reese and Anthony Gargano on WIP Radio, Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook acknowledged the reality of the situation following former University of Pittsburgh running back LeSean McCoy’s arrival in Philadelphia. While Westbrook is willing to assist McCoy in getting acclimated to the league, his top priority obviously is to do everything he can through his own performance to ensure that McCoy doesn’t overtake him. “My job as an older guy as well as a guy that’s competitive is to help them out, help them be the best player that they can,” Westbrook told WIP, per our friend, Sheil Kapadia, of philly.com. “But also for me, my job is to keep those guys on the bench as long as I can, and try to remain on this team and in this league as long as I can and that’s just the bottom line. ... “And so I would caution the fans and different people of saying that these kids are going to be able to jump on the field right away and contribute right away. Hopefully, that’s the case, but that doesn’t happen very often in the NFL.”
