The NFC South-leading Falcons have suffered a serious loss in their secondary.

Falcons cornerback Desmond Trufant has a torn pectoral and is expected to have season-ending surgery, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Trufant had practiced this week on a limited basis and was hoping he could play through the injury, but that apparently won’t be the case.

The 26-year-old Trufant had started every game of the season for the Falcons before suffering the injury in Week Nine and missing Week 10.

Trufant was the Falcons’ first-round draft pick in 2013 and is scheduled to make $8 million in his fifth-year option season next year.
