A rookie with a shot at a major role in the Falcons’ offense in Year One has signed his contract.
Indiana tailback Tevin Coleman, the club’s third-round pick, has inked his four-year deal with the club, per the NFL’s Tuesday personnel notice.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Coleman rushed for 2,036 yards on 264 carries for the Hoosiers in 2014. In his collegiate career, Coleman averaged 7.1 yards per carry.
The lone back drafted by the Falcons in 2015, Coleman’s size could, at the least, give him the edge for the short-yardage and between-the-tackles work in the offense. However, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he were the lead back. Devonta Freeman (5-8, 206) and Antone Smith (5-9, 192) are the other major competitors for playing time in the Atlanta backfield.
