Fisher disagrees with Scaife’s “cheap” call

The good news for Titans tight end Bo Scaife? An MRI on the knee he injured Thursday night revealed only swelling. According to coach Jeff Fisher, Scaife is day-to-day.

The bad news? Fisher saw fit to go to bat for James Harrison on the play that led to the swollen knee.

Scaife has claimed that Harrison’s undercutting tackle was a cheap shot. Addressing the hit in a press conference today, Fisher said he didn’t believe it was cheap at all.

“When the ball carrier’s got the ball, he’s a runner,” said Fisher. “The defender . . . can tackle him anyway he wants. I think the defender was driving, was already low. It was just a strange set of circumstances. If Bo catches the ball and turns up the sideline, he’s tackled low, gets up and we’ve got a first down.

“Bo tried to make the catch and come back underneath him to keep those things alive, trying to run after catch and got his leg planted.”

As Czar Florio pointed out this morning, it appeared Harrison could have gone at Scaife a little higher. But the hit was, as Fisher noted as well, not illegal.

Still, the fact Scaife has overcome three different ACL injuries during his football career might make him a little more quick to accuse. And it’s surprising Fisher didn’t acknowledge that fact instead of pooh-poohing Scaife’s claim.
