An eagle-eyed reader has pointed out to us that, according to the indispensable (for stalkers) FlightAware.com web site, a plane left Hattiesburg this morning, bound for Green Bay. Last week, we created a mini-stir by pointing out that, the day after quarterback Brett Favre was released by the Jets, a flight arrived from Minneapolis in Hattiesburg, and a flight headed back to Minnesota left from Hattiesburg later that same day. We don’t know what any of this means, but the level of activity at the Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport makes the connection worthy of mention. Indeed, there are only five scheduled departures on Tuesday, with three of them bound for Memphis. So why would someone be flying from Favre’s stomping grounds to the place where he became a star? As the reader suggests, agent Bus Cook (who lives and works in Hattiesburg) could be flying north to renew negotiations regarding that $20 million “money-for-nothing” marketing deal that the Packers offered Favre last year in an apparent effort to get him to abandon his plans to unretire. This year, with Favre now having a clear path to play for Green Bay’s arch rivals in Minnesota, it makes even more sense for the Packers to pay Favre not to play.
