Game-winning blocked field goal earns Bryan Bresee NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Saints defensive tackle Bryan Bresee is getting NFL recognition for the way he sealed the Saints’ win over the Giants on Sunday.

Bresee was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after he blocked a Giants 35-yard field goal attempt on the final play of the game, preserving the Saints’ 14-11 win.

The 305-pound Bresee showed remarkable athleticism, jumping over the line without touching anyone and getting a hand on Giants kicker Graham Gano’s kick to deflect it and prevent the Giants from forcing overtime.

Bresee is primarily on the Saints for his value in plugging the middle of the line on defense, and he has played 61 percent of the Saints’ defensive snaps this season. But he has also played 16 percent of special teams snaps, primarily on extra point and field goal block, and on Sunday he showed just how valuable he can be in that role.
