The on-again, off-again, on-again investigation of Jets quarterback Geno Smith is off. Again.
Via Rich Cimini of ESPN, Davie, Florida, police have declared inactive the case arising from a June 21 dispute between Smith and a woman at his home.
The investigation has ended with no charges being brought.
That said, “additional information or evidence” could resurrect the case. For now, however, nothing more will be done.
“No further investigative steps can be reasonably taken with the information presently available,” the investigator’s report said, per Cimini.
The NFL could investigate Smith under the Personal Conduct Policy. That would hinge on an alleged victim cooperating with the league, if the league decides to explore the situation.
The situation emerged when a woman named “Kristen” posted a video on social media in which she claimed Smith “beat my ass.” After saying it is not an “active case,” the authorities decided to continue to investigate.
On June 23, the NFL said it was “aware” of the situation but declined further comment.
Traded by the Raiders back to the team that had picked him in the second round of the 2013 draft, Smith is expected to be the Jets’ starting quarterback in 2026.
