Amazingly, the Jets have made rookie linebacker Vernon Gholston a healthy scratch for Sunday’s game against the Bills. Unless Gholston secrelty is injured (no pupil of Bill Belichick would ever monkey with the injury report, would he?), it’s an amazing development. Gholston was the sixth overall pick in the draft, and he received a ton of pre-draft buzz based on his impressive measurables and super-hero physique. Before the draft, however, some expressed concerns that he often disappeared in film of his college games, at Ohio State. So if Gholston (who has only 12 tackles on the season, and no sacks) isn’t hurt or being disciplined in some way, the move represents an implicit concession by the Jets that maybe they should have gone in a different direction.
