The Giants suffered through a string of injuries at cornerback last season, which led them to pick up Chykie Brown in November.

It seemed like a move with a low likelihood of paying off since Brown had recently been let go by the Ravens, whose cornerback corps was just as shredded by injures as the Giants’ crew. Brown wound up making four starts in eight appearances with the Giants and the team liked enough of what they saw to bring him back for a full season this time.

Jordan Raanan of NJ.com reported the news of Brown’s return to the team. In addition to keeping Brown with the Giants, the deal means that he’ll be working with the Giants’ hire at defensive coordinator again. Steve Spagnuolo was on Baltimore’s coaching staff for the last two years and coached the defensive backs in 2014, so he’s familiar with Brown after watching him for 23 games in the last two seasons.

Brown is the fourth player the Giants have brought back as a free agent, joining fullback Henry Hynoski, linebacker Mark Herzlich and running back Chris Ogbonnaya. They also used the franchise tag on defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul.
