Giants rookie Wilson “a little bit out of the doghouse”

The message was as clear as it was curt.

But Giants coach Tom Coughlin is willing to give first-round pick David Wilson another chance.

The rookie running back didn’t get another snap on offense after fumbling in last week’s loss to the Cowboys, but Coughlin said Wilson was “a little bit out of the doghouse” now, according to Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger.

Coughlin said Wilson responded “well” and will “certainly” get a chance to fix things this week, though he didn’t specify how big Wilson’s role would be.

Asked if coaches would talk to Wilson and emphasize ball security drills, Coughlin said: “all of the above.”

“He’s anxious to do right,” Coughlin said of the rookie.

As much as Coughlin needed to prove his point in the opener, he also needs to re-integrate Wilson into his offense. As much as he might trust Ahmad Bradshaw, they need a dynamic element to the running game, and Wilson could provide that.
